Wolfmother? Royal Blood? Danzig? No. It's the Diamond Dukes, who have it all!

They are just so good – this the only way for me to describe an actually very new emerging band from Munich. The Diamond Dukes. I just recently saw (or should I say discovered?) them at the Open Stage Night at Munich’s Cord Club – not just me, but also the whole good crowd there were absolutely amazed seeing so much musical talent, passion and rock’n’roll spirit on this stage. Keeping in mind, this band has just been formed about a year ago, I am sure there is a stellar career waiting for them :-) As chance would have it, they are working on their debut EP just now and I am sure neither you nor me will be disappointed from it.

Stevey of the band gave me some more insights in the interview. You should also check out some of their demo recordings below – just be warned, the quality is a bit poor. Best you go to see them live in any around Munich in 2015 and check out their Facebook Page for updates (and give them a thumbs up ;-)).

Enjoy!

The Diamond Dukes live

When and how did you originally get together as a band?

We all met in a bar in Munich in spring of 2013. So it was more or less a spontaneous idea when being drunk to make some music together. Now and then we met afterwards for little jam sessions - just to make some music and without any targets. In the end of 2013 we started to write own songs and decided to rent a rehearsal room. Short time later the Diamond Dukes were born. About half a year later (May 14) we had our first gig at the Festival “Lange Nacht der Musik” at Sendlinger Tor in Munich.  Since then we had a couple of other club gigs in Munich.

You call your musical style “Independent Desert Rock” – well, how does that sound like? What are your most important musical influences?

Our style is influenced by the different genres that every member brought into the band. Marco, our drummer, comes from Jazz. Michael used to play in a Metal band. The other Michael and me come from Stoner Rock. The combination of those different music styles ended up as the sound we have now in our songs. Of course it is always different to explain the exact style when writing own songs but to give you an answer we would say it is basically kind of dirty garage sound.

You played a number of live gigs already, filled with enormous musical talent and passion (if you ask me ;-) ) – still you “only” have 50 fans on Facebook and apparently no homepage – how come? Would you call yourself an “offline-band”?

The most honest answer in terms of Facebook would appartently be: Laziness ;-) Due to the fact that we were more into song writing and playing music instead of “being online” we started very late with Facebook & Co. Nevertheless the plan is to improve our online presence after the release of our fist EP “The devil has found his way” (Spring 2015). Because we see us more as a live band this EP should be an appetizer for the people. It should give a first impression of what to expect at a gig of the Diamond Dukes.

Any releases, tours and/or gigs coming up in 2015?

For 2015 we are thinking of some short trips to different locations in Germany. Additionally the plan is to have some further club gigs in Munich and is surrounding cities. And our new EP of course! Be ready for that!

Some of my favourite Duke-songs - tell me what you think! How do they sound to you? Comments and shares welcome :-)
